When you are appy and you know it…

October 22, 2013

Wine apps, wine apps, more wine apps….wine-apps-150x150

Every wine lover has one or two, maybe more on their phones. I do. But I must agree with wine blogger Alder Yarrow (@vinography) that many of them fall way short of what they promise. The most aggravating is when an app only gives unidimensional info which is quite irrelevant (wine stores in Canada or Uzbekistan? Duh!) and even worse, when you can/photograph the wine label and it says ‘not available’, or not in database? Frustrating, to say the least.

Mashable’s listing of top wine apps include Snooth Wine Pro, Drync, Cor.kz and Hello Vino. I have been using Vivino myself a fair amount lately, and it is not bad at all. Especially as it puts wine not identified by the app into a list to be manually appraised by its experts. That has produced dividends on a couple of occasions. It gets a thumbs up from Forbes, among others, too. Indian Wine List is really the only one which includes popular Indian wines in its database. Others include S-Bordeaux, Champagne Day, Wine.com, Nat Decants, Wine cellar and Vintage Chart by Wine Spectator. They pretty much all have wine listings, wine bottle scan/photograph capabilities and tasting notes.

So when Yarrow said in his blog that he has discovered a wine app, though a bit flawed is the best of the bunch, I gladly hit the ‘download’ button. The app in question is Delectable, and his review of it is here.

I am trying it out, and hope it gives me more satisfaction than the others. Will post my reviews…

So, do you have a favourite app?
