Winemaker to the stars

June 25, 2013
Vinya La Scala Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2001

Vinya La Scala Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2001

In Spain, too, not too far from Torres in the Penedès, is Jean Leon winery, a boutique winery once owned by Jean Leon, restaurateur and winemaker to Hollywood stars, who was also one of the first to make wines in Spain from international grape varieties. Each label features an exclusive painting by Catalan artists. The 2001 Vinya La Scala Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva, pictured here, is named after his famous Hollywood club, La Scala, which he owned in partnership with James Dean. The winery is tiny, with a beautiful view and is run by a staff of 20. Talk about exclusive! Loved our visit here – the wines, the serenity and the story of the man – Jean Leon.
